Diverge twice, converge twice — the diamond of design.
UK Design Council model with two diamonds. First diamond = problem: Discover (diverge — research, ethnography, context mapping) → Define (converge — frame a single problem). Second diamond = solution: Develop (diverge — concepts, prototypes, co-creation) → Deliver (converge — select, validate, implement). Between diamonds sits the 'well-framed problem' — the biggest lever in the whole process.
Service design, innovation, strategy workshops, defining a new category, customer-experience redesign, or when the team jumps to solutions without understanding the problem.
Don't skip phases. In divergence don't judge — generate quantity. In convergence judge and reduce. Between diamonds write the problem in one sentence: 'How might we…?' Without it the second diamond has no compass. Most teams fail in the first diamond — they pin down 'the' problem too early.
Agencies execute. Consultants advise. And then everyone wonders why the two never add up.
Clues does both. We look for the clues that point to the right path, and then we walk it with you all the way. Because strategy without execution is just a well-paid hypothesis.
We put this library together because we see structured thinking as the foundation of success. Whether you're working on your next campaign or building a brand-new brand.
Share it, use it, build on it. The Clues team.
